Bulgaria is rich in beautiful diverse landscapes and is full of surprises.

Bulgaria is situated in Southeast Europe and occupies the eastern part of the Balkan Peninsula. To the north it borders on Romania, to the west on the Republic of Macedonia and The Republic of Serbia, to the east on the Black Sea, to the south on Greece and to the southeast on Turkey's European part.

There is an impressive 230-mile long Black Sea Coast with some of the finest and extensive sandy beaches in Europe. There is plenty to see in Bulgaria. The relief of the country is diverse, including vast lowlands, plains, low hills, high and low mountains, valleys, river basins and springs and deep gorges. The sharp rocky peaks lend the Bulgarian mountains an alpine view. These surface structures were formed during different geological eras. Green fertile valleys give wonderful fresh vegetables and juicy fruits. Bulgaria is rich in thermal wells and spas. Very little, if anything, is known outside the country about the healing effects of its waters. Bulgaria is blessed with more than 500 thermal water wells and sources, both hot and cold.

Summers are long and hot with rich colours and scents. With average temperature of 27 C and more than 300 hours of sunshine in the high season or the magnificent mountain ranges rich in wild flora and fauna, it’s worth exploring it.

Winters are full of deep and soft snow, making it a wonderland for winter vacations with skiing in the mountains, warming glow of open fires in cosy winter log cabins and marvellous folklore tales. Each of the four seasons has its own fascination and holds unexpected surprises for you!

All of that make it an interesting and intriguing experience to anyone. Bulgaria is ready to be discovered by young lovers of sports, by families with children, by retired people and those who need treatment, by visitors eager to see its cultural and historic monuments and even those who dream of holidays full of fun. You can be entertained in modern seaside resorts, relax and soak up the sun on solitary beaches or take a journey revealing the secrets of this land of tradition and great contrasts. You can spend your vacation amidst the unspoilt nature of mountain resorts and villages, in small fishing towns, peaceful monasteries or taking in the authentic atmosphere of National Revival museum towns and villages throughout the country.

Bulgaria is an independent state and has a democratic government. All citizens have equal rights as far as sex, nationality, race, religion, education, occupation, social status and welfare are concerned.

The Bulgarian people is one of the most ancient. The Bulgarian state was founded in 681 and ever since that time the name of the country has always been the same. Its nearly 14-century existence is full of trials and tribulations entirely dedicated to the long struggles for national freedom and independence. And despite the foreign domination the Bulgarian language, folklore, and cultural heritage remained almost intact. It has only contributed to the Bulgarian awareness of other cultures and the tolerance of the very concept of “being different”.

The roots of Bulgarian culture spread much deeper than even most Bulgarians might imagine. The country has always been an important crossroads connecting Europe with Asia, and Northern Europe with the Mediterranean. It was home at one time or another to the Thracians, the Greeks and the Romans, and their cultural heritage has continued to live long after them. The wealth of this heritage makes cultural traditions of present-day Bulgaria a unique phenomenon in a land where East meets West and keeps them still very much alive. The Bulgarian folk songs with their unique rhythm and harmony are the well known abroad. Your heart will sense the Bulgarian spirit in the merry and healthy enigmatic atmosphere of the rites and celebrations, in the gaiety of Bulgarian festivals and customs. You will discern them in the everlasting beauty of the Bulgarian handicrafts, finely woven in the ceramic vignettes and woodcarvings, colourful rugs and hammered copperware. You will find them in the exquisite taste of the Bulgarian cuisine and in the fine aroma of the Bulgarian wines.

Bulgaria awakens all your senses – the taste of good food and drink, the smell of roses and wild flowers wafting across summer meadows, the sound of cascading waterfalls and waves on the shore - Bulgaria has it all!
